Our future is where our investment is in. The lives of motorist and those surrounding them are being put in danger by Rhode Island’s poor road conditions. Rhode Island is one of the states with the worst road conditions. Forty-one percent of the state’s roads are damaged and has no maintenance. Rhode Island needs to invest more money into road repair to prevent future damage.
The condition of the roads has gradually worsen throughout the state of Rhodes Island. “A new report released from the white house ranks RI as one of the worst states in the country when it comes to road conditions.”(Smart Growth America, 2011) With this evidence, this shows the political leaders in Rhode Island that not only is fixing the roads a priority but also making sure that the repairs will last years. The cause of accidents can be numerous, one of which can be the condition of the roads. Potholes, wheel ruts, and positive guidance are elements of poor road conditions that cause car accidents. Poor road conditions can cause many car accidents endangering many people and becoming very expensive for the motorist.
The lack of maintenance also caused Rhode Island their damaged roads. “Billions of precious tax dollars were spent to build our highway system, and neglecting repair squanders that investment. Keeping our roads in good condition reduces taxpayers’ future liabilities.” (Smart Growth America, 2011) The roads need to be cared for to last longer to keep the tax payers investment safe. Fixing any minuscule damage such as a pot hole should be fixed immediately to prevent any more impairment to the whole
