The Pros And Cons Of Prescribing Antipsychotic Drugs

Children are being diagnosed as having psychological problems at an early age. More antipsychotic drugs are being prescribed each day to children even for behavioral problems. According to an article from Dr. Mercola “There is big money to be made in prescribing medications to kids – especially when those medications are intended to be taken for life, as many psychotropic drugs are.” (Dr. Marcelo) Some doctor’s might want a quick fix, and are willing to give their patience antipsychotic drugs even if they do not need it. Many other parents do not wish to give mental medicine to them due to the different side effects it can cause on their children. Prescribing drugs to kids always tends to be the first choice. Therapies, sports, play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy are a few alternatives. What other options should doctors take into consideration before prescribing mental health drugs for children?
An example of an unethical industry is the pharmaceutical one. Doctors are prescribing antipsychotic drugs to children as little as two years old for different psychological issues. Some medicines have not even been tested on how they can affect the kids; we all know that every medicine has some side effect. Are children just being prescribed mental
