Under the circumstances, this intervention will be designed for an individual, focusing on how to decrease the number of times he has to be redirected, calmed down, retrieved from the hallway, reminded not to use of profanity, coaxed into not sleeping, and the ultimate goal to be derived at is in class assignment completion. In addition to these interventions taking place, the counselor and teachers, will offer up a substantial amount of attention to this student as often as possible, by praising the student for his effort in completing task that yield positive results. According to Sprick, Borgmeier, and Nolet (2002), instructors should make an effort to give problem students three times more praise than negative comments. The idea …show more content…
With this in mind, the principal has agreed to have the school purchase all candies, toys, and other items that the student professes to like and agrees to earn tokens in 15 minute increments, in exchange for work completion and positive behavior. The counselor believes, this intervention supports the mission of the school, which states, “The mission of Madison Community Unit School District #12 is to maximize all students’ potential to be successful in the world.” In promoting the success of all students the school is willing to partake in an intervention that will generate and promote positive behavior from students, which will afford all students the opportunity to develop life skills, active listening skills, following directions, completing homework assignments, thus enabling them to possibly turn things around so that they can work in a career to become a productive member of …show more content…
This action plan was constructed to assist one student an 8 year old male who is in second grade but on a kindergarten level. His medication is not being administered properly, so I had the honor of talking to his grandmother asking why he was so sleepy all the time. It turned out he was on medication and the school did not know, the counselor, requested that she provide me with his history and physical report along with a list of medications which was given to the school nurse. It turned out that this student was being treated for ODD, and ADHD which was not documented. As a result of him being sleepy when he has to see me, the counselor, implemented a morning walk to get his blood pumping and his brain moving. We do this every time the student says that he is sleepy and oddly enough he likes it, because he shares a lot of information with me, and we have strengthened our therapeutic alliance. Also this intervention is used when the student refuses to do work. He is required to go for an extended walk outside or through the building, to refrain from remaining ideal doing nothing throughout the day.
