The plug-in hybrid is the way to go The future of automobiles is changing very rapidly. With a demand for less pollution and more efficient vehicles, we need to have alternatives to petroleum powered vehicles. As of now there are a couple of choices to choose from. You can currently buy a pure electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid vehicle, or a regular hybrid vehicle, as an alternative to standard gasoline powered cars. Of the choices listed, the plug-in vehicle, is the best option for an alternative to standard petroleum vehicles. There are many reasons the plug-in is best, but the main reasons are; most people are not ready to transition to a pure electric vehicle yet; plug-in vehicles are very efficient; and plug-in vehicles reduce pollution. …show more content…
The pollution created by most petroleum vehicles is a big cause of global warming. As pointed out by: Siena Kaplan, Brad Heavner, and Rob Sargent, "Plug-in cars ... produce less global warming pollution, emit little or no pollution from the tailpipe, and reduce our dependence on oil” (Plug-in Electric Vehicles Will Reduce Air Pollution). One of the most important things we need to consider, is where we get our energy. Some parts of the country obtain their energy from coal; which is not a clean source of energy for pollution reduction. The energy source we need to advance in, is clean energy. As Siena Kaplan, Brad Heavner, and Rob Sargent, state: “If we clean up the electric grid by reducing our use of polluting energy sources and increasing our use of clean energy sources such as wind and solar power, we can maximize the environmental benefits of plug-in vehicles” (The Advantages of Plug-in Cars). This would help slow the progress of global warming significantly. Pure electric cars are just as beneficial. The only problem with pure electric cars, is most people need a vehicle they can use without the anxiety of being restricted by range. This is why plug-in car are such a great alternative. Another thing Siena Kaplan, Brad Heavner, and Rob Sargent, speak about is the air quality and how plug-in cars can …show more content…
The plug-in vehicle can help to get skeptics over their range anxiety. The fact you can drive in electric mode for most of your daily needs and then take a cross-country trip the next day is very appealing. The cost per mile to drive electric vehicles versus gasoline vehicles, makes the plug-in car, a much more efficient choice. Concern for global warming is the highest it has ever been. We need to focus on using clean energy sources when trying to reduce our current pollution levels. The plug-in vehicle, gives you the choice to have it charge from windmills, solar panels, or from the grid, which would contribute to cleaner air. By using clean energy sources, keeping daily trips below the battery range, and educating more people about buying plug-in vehicles, the plug-in hybrid vehicle, will be the car that takes us into the

The cheapest hybrid costs a little less than $20,000, while the most expensive luxury model costs more than $100,000. We need to educate people on how much hybrid cars help the community. White states "Educating people on how much hybrid cars save energy could work" that means teaching people on how they work could help sell more hybrid cars. It is possible to teach people that hybrid cars use twin-powered engines. Hybrid cars use a rechargeable energy storage system to supplement fossil fuel energy for vehicle propulsion.…

This would be a huge benefit to people world wide because of the rise in gas prices. Being able to still go to any location you would with your car now, but not have to pay the same amount of money to go there. The automotive companies have been working hard on making this a priority. The companies have been saying that “Reducing the multibillion-dollar subsidies to road travel is one obvious step” (Flavin par. 26).…

“Hybrids are the most gasoline-effective of all vehicles with owners saving more costs by using hybrid vehicles compared with vehicles running on gas” (The Money-Saving). Because technology has evolved over the years, hybrid vehicles are unique to the industry. The automobile companies have been using gas powered technology throughout all these years. At slow speeds, the vehicle consumes electric power only by reducing the usage of gas. It avoids toxic releases from an internal combustion engine.…

Many electric and hybrid cars also include regenerative breaking, which is when the car recharges its battery when going down a hill and when the gas pedal is not engaged . This helps the car go a longer distance. Electric and hybrid cars should be more widely used because they help reduce carbon emissions. Carbon emissions lead to global warming which will and already has altered the environment in which we live. In order to try and reduce our impact on the earth, more citizens of the United States should switch over to electric and hybrid cars because they help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, there are incentives to buy them, they will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and they are quieter.…

Alternative fuel sources are a popular subject when referring to the automobile; electricity and hydrogen powered vehicles seem to be the most efficient aside from gasoline. With the electric car technology advancing at a rapid rate, in the near future it has the potential to come closer to overtaking gasoline powered vehicles. Protecting the environment seems to be a big priority, as it should be, and the electric car can prevent/decrease pollution. Gasoline is a non-renewable resource and at some point in the future it will run out, unlike electricity. There are multiple car companies producing electric cars, like Tesla and BMW.…
