Penniless and in pressing need of a gig, friends and struggling musicians Dave and Billy B while on their way to Tampa Bar, a honky-tonk country music joint, come across two damsels in distress, Sue and Janet, who seem to be stuck in the middle of the desert.
Apparently, the girls’ car has irreparably broken down, and since they have nowhere else to go, without a second thought, they accept the boys’ offer to give them a ride and watch the show.
However, Sue and Janet haven’t been exactly frank with Dave and Billy B, hiding the fact that not only do

2009 Camera d’Or Cannes Film Festival winner ‘Samson & Delilah’ really hits the nail on the head, presenting a raft of Indigenous issues, with incredibly real acting adding authenticity. Although it is not like a typical boy-meets-girl film, it has a powerful message for all viewers. Set in Central Australia, the film portrays the love story of two Indigenous teenagers. The story follows Samson (Rowan McNamara), a 15-year-old petrol sniffing teenager with no discernible future, and Delilah (Marissa Gibson), a 16-year-old Indigenous girl who tends to the needs of her grandmother, Kitty (Mitjili Gibson), who is an artist. After a slow start – one which reflects the tediousness of life in the small outback community - the story quickly jumps…

Poverty, Violence and Exploitation Dominating the South and the North in William Attaway 's Blood on the Forge Blood on the Forge is a gripping and tragic novel by William Attaway that tells a story about three brothers who face the violent oppression and hyper exploitation in their migration from the rural South to the industrial North of America. When Attaway was a child, his family was part of this population shift, thus this story wholly illustrates the tragedy and hardships of many African-American immigrants in those days. Blood on the Forge is considered a work of social critique as this novel protests poverty, violence and exploitation being put under the influence of capitalism in the South and the North during the Great Migration. What first catches the readers’ eyes is the poverty of the Mosses’ family being acutely expressed in terms of hunger. Perceivably, the novel opens to Melody playing “the hungry blues” on his guitar in an attempt to suppress his hunger cravings.…

“Being poor mean’s being unprotected. You might as well try playing quarterback with no helmet, no padding, no training, and no experience, behind a line of hundred-pound weaklings. With no cushion of money, no training in the ways of the wider world, and too little defense against the threats and temptations of decaying communities, a poor man or woman gets sacked again and again-buffeted and bruised and defeated” (Shipler, 2004, pg. 5). David Shipler wrote this in his captivating book The Working Poor: Invisible in America, using a metaphor to describe individuals living in poverty and how they are unprotected and stuck in a vicious cycle. I found Shipler’s metaphor to be really accurate and surprising; it brought both truth and seriousness…

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the “official poverty rate in 2014 was 14.8 percent, which means there were 46.7 million people in poverty” (U.S. Census Bureau). Pablo Picasso once said, “I’d like to live as a poor man with lots of money.” It seems he achieved at least part of his goal, as his net worth at the time of his death was approximately $50 million (Danner). Such a quote – and assumed lifestyle – could be an indicator of a person dealing with the underspending money disorder. This paper will discuss the underspending money disorder, money scripts related to underspending, and why the brain creates said money scripts. Underspending “is spending significantly less than the amount you could conservatively spend annually and still have a 99% chance of never running out of money” (The Evils of Underspending).…
