Although pesticides are meant to kill pest, why would you like to eat something that has the amount of poison to kill many insects? Wouldn’t you feel weird to eat something that contains that chemical that was able to kill millions of insect from infesting the fruit or vegetable? But we could try find other ways to prevent the use of chemical pesticides. We can think that GMOs can help in this situation, since scientists and biotechnicians are now trying create and develop food that are already pest free. Organic food is mostly describe as chemical free, grown all natural. Many people have turn to buy more organic food then conventional food. Consumers are looking more into their option to shop organic alternatives because they are now noticing that farmers are using a lot of chemicals to kill weeds, insects and other pests. There is an interesting fact on how much farmers used chemical on their non-organic food found in the article Everybody’s Going Organic- Should You? It said in their article that “some (non-organic) apples are sprayed up to 16 rimes with 36 different pesticides” (1). That’s a lot of different pesticides that are sprayed in our foods. Another reason why consumers are now going for organic food is shown in the article Organic vs Conventional were it tries to compare the two and show a study on which is better if either organic or conventional is good, it stated in the article that “this study showed that detectable pesticide residues were five times more likely to be found on conventional food versus organic food” (Campbell, …show more content…
I have been to a couple of grocery stores such as Wholes Food Market, MOM’s Organic Market, and Trader’s Joe. Shopping at Trader’s Joe then from a normal grocery store like Giant, you would think that it’d be more expensive. To tell you the truth I didn’t really notice a difference. Maybe since I just bought items that I usually eat often, I didn’t purchase any extra items. When I got home I tasted one of the organic apple I bought, it tasted kind of different it didn’t really taste as sweet as an Honeycrisp apple. It’s was different, I was so use to shopping conventional foods, my body was already use to it. I felt like I had more energy consuming an organic apple it’s weird but that how I felt. I then decided to stop by again at Whole Food Market and purchase myself some healthy snacks. I purchase organic corn chips, and some fresh guacamole. I took it to work and was snacking that all these days. I felt that it was healthier then snacking on donuts or Doritos at work. I felt really proud making all these changes and I felt like my body was feeling the changes I’ve been doing. Now I’m thinking of going to these grocery stores more often. This weekend I also tried something new, I went to a vegan restaurant with my little brother. This was something new to us, we had never ate at a vegan restaurant before. When we looked at the menu we didn’t know what to choose. I finally made a decision and decided

Organic grocery stores only sell foods which have not been altered in any way. Many people who are against GMOs rather spend a little more money on organic foods than buying foods that contain genetically modified ingredients. Another reason to as why those who are against foods that contain genetically modified ingredients avoid them is because in the United States companies aren’t required to label their foods so many don’t like that they don’t really know what they’re eating. I understand that it’s good to know what the food we consume contains, but when foods are genetically modified they are being modified to either have more nutrition values or the food derives from a crop which has been modified to withstand certain conditions. FAQs About GMOs state that, “GMO labeling is mandatory in more than 60 countries but not in the U.S. opponents to mandatory labeling here often say that it unfairly implies that foods with genetically engineered ingredients are unsafe” (2).…

Not only should we be concerned with what is entering our bodies, but we should know if how our food is being made is hurting the environment. Proven by a plethora of studies, genetically modified organisms have a negative impact on the government for they increase the use of herbicides and pesticides, are the source of cross-pollination disasters, and they are causing the extinguishing of bees, birds, and butterflies. We cannot let this damage to our environment continue or worsen. We must take a stand against the genetic modification of our crops, or soon enough all of our food will be tainted and the environment will begin to severely…

Pollan backs up his main point on this growing rate of obesity by talking about an “obesity researcher” named Adam Drewnowski who went into a grocery store and realized that the cheaper options for food in the grocery store were the more unhealthy choice. Pollan states that “Drewnowski found that a dollar could buy 1,200 calories of cookies or potato chips but only 250 calories of carrots. Looking for something to wash down those chips, he discovered that his dollar bought 875 calories of soda but only 170 calories of orange juice.” This might cause people, especially people on a budget, to gravitate towards the unhealthy option because it is the cheaper option. For many years, the farm bill supports farmers to grow harmful substances such as fats, rice, cotton, soybeans, and wheat. These crops are not necessarily unhealthy…
