The Pros And Cons Of Open Carry

Are open carry laws a benefit for personal safety or a threat to the average citizen? Indeed, open carry verses conceded carry has been a topic of discussion for quite some time, but has recently become the focus of serious topic and debate mainly because of civil unrest across the nation that has created explosive gun sales and forming new legislation. Consequently, many articles have been written about the topic both in support and opposition. One such article in opposition is “The editorial: when the NRA is a voice of moderation on “Open Carry” laws its clear America’s obsession whit guns has gone too far” written by Maclean’s, who illustrates the law as it pertains to Canada law. To put it differently, the author compares the new Open Carry Texas coalition to the debate over slavery from the 1800’s.

This is not to say, Americans should not be allowed to practice their civil right to bear arms however with this in mind these individuals need to show restraint, and not just brandish a firearm simply because they can. For example, what are police officers to do when called to a location where an individual is displaying a firearm? Because as It states in the law, police officers are not permissible to inquire about wither or not a person has a concealed handgun license (CHL) unless the person has given the officer “reasonable Suspicion) that the law has been violated.
