Persuasive Speech On Nuclear Weapons

On August 6th 1945, the United States of America dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima killing around 80,000 people and wiping out 90% of the city. 71 years later President Barack Obama, payed tribute to the victims of Hiroshima at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial located in Japan. The president also prepared a speech. Obama’s speech outlined the effects of nuclear weapons and the amount of power a country has over these deadly weapons. The idea of nuclear weapons has always been a controversial debate. Some people see the use in nuclear weapons while others disagree with nuclear weapons. Firstly, liberalists oppose the use of nuclear weapons because they believe that nations could fix any sort of disagreements with each other through cooperation. Through cooperation nations are able to come up with safer alternatives to certain issues, while nuclear weapons will only inflict damage on targeted countries. “International trade is to be encouraged because it will lead to greater wealth and human well-being, as well as fewer wars since trade promotes cooperation, trust and mutual interest.” (Sens/Stoett 20) Treaties and international institutions were created to ensure cooperation between states. This cooperation leads to nations having better relationships with each other. “An international community established institutions and treaties that work to avoid war and aspire to restrict and roll back and ultimately eliminate the existence of nuclear weapons”(Obama). These treaties and institutions ensured the ability to avoid war. Without war there wouldn’t be a need to use nuclear weapons because through cooperation states were able to come to peaceful and reasonable solutions.
