Although some believe that nuclear waste can be easily disposed of, they are not fully aware of challenges that people still face today in order to keep us safe. Nuclear waste can remain dangerously radioactive for thousands of years; just like the incident at Fukushima which led to radioactive gases being released into the atmosphere, harmful particles still remain in the air today. It occurred in 2011, when a tsunami, following an earthquake disabled the power supply and the cooling of the nuclear reactors, which resulted in nuclear waste that spewed into the atmosphere.
