This promoted a similar situation of the red scare that occurred in 1920’s, however, people’s reaction toward this case are more intense. Therefore, this thus shows that communist have an impact not only the policies created to retain containment or preventing the spread, but also have great impact on America’s life and attitude towards them. During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union embarked on a competition to develop more powerful and destructive nuclear weapons. However, American life is also put into jeopardy.…
The widespread, low standard of living that Americans had recently begun to recover from due to the Great Depression, that only ended a decade prior to the beginning of the Cold War era, meant that they were determined to avoid the repetition of the suffering they endured, that would come about through the devastating outcomes of war. Civil Defense programmes partnered with American companies to promote the installation of fall-out shelters in homes, nuclear bomb drills in schools, and urge Americans to prepare for the very real possibility of nuclear warfare. (Source A and B) It was the fear of the unknown that compelled Americans into believing anti-communist propaganda which made citizens more willing take extreme measures to protect themselves, therefore into purchasing American-produced goods for their emergency shelters which propelled the American economy and ensured the American government had enough funding to sustain their research on nuclear…
Danger flows through cities and terror floods around the world faster than any disease after World War II with the mass destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9 1945. Due this world changing event everyone wanted the power of the atom bomb. The fear of the atomic bomb and communism was spreading throughout the United States and other Allied Countries. The United States had a method called “containment” and its purpose was to stop communism before it spread and to rid of it. The long “war” was held from 1945 till 1991, the United States and the Soviet Union were in this battle of who could create the better, bigger, and more powerful atom bomb and to get rid of communism and contain it out of the United States, to which this…
I feel that the debate on the nuclear bomb and limits in wartime was overall a weak one. Both sides struggled to get their points across and explain them in a way that someone could understand them. The facts and evidence were present for most of the debate, but the connections to make great points were not. Out of all the points I feel the con side’s claim that there was alternatives to the nuclear bomb was lacking the most. This was due to the fact that whenever they were asked for any supporting evidence or examples of alternatives to the bomb they would shrug the asker off and move on.…
Document #5 highlights this showing the U.S and the USSR in the lead of how many Nuclear tests each performed from 1945-2016 with the U.S at 1,030 and the USSR at 715. Based on these statistics we can infer that the nuclear tests were not only to assess the power of the weapon, but threaten other nations, much like the U.S sending a rocket the moon. These specific threats were really emphasizing and showing that unspoken tension between the two nations during the cold war. Nuclear tests due to this event now have a new meaning in the world's eyes and ultimately that increases the likelihood of conflict between nations. North Korea for example has had Nuclear tests in both 2016 and now 2017 as of late according to document #5, and because of the cold war this seems like a threat.…
Introduction: During the First World War Americans began to develop a fear communist subversion within American society, this fear became known as the Red Scare. This fear of communism was compounded during the Cold War because of the paranoid beliefs of Senator Joseph McCarthy, who developed a set of anit-communism ethos known as McCarthyism. The purpose of McCarthyism was to minimize the communist threat to America by accusing and detaining suspected communists by claiming that they were a national security threat or disloyal to the United States.…
For example, McCarthy assisted in removing innocent government personnel from high jobs as well as cajoled America into believing the…
Introduction Following the end of the Second World War (1939-1945), the United States was propelled into a Cold War with the Soviet Union and other communist countries around the world. At the root of this political hostility was the ideological struggle between western capitalism and Soviet communism. This era, beginning in the late 1940s and ending in the early 1950s, is characterized by a series of communist ‘witch-hunts’ and nationwide alarm caused by the perceived threat posed by communists within the United States government. Coined as the Second Red Scare, this period of widespread hysteria was largely instigated by Wisconsin junior senator Joseph R. McCarthy and the House of Un-American Activities.…
Beginning with the forming distrust between the United States and the USSR after World War II, followed by the Soviet Union successfully testing an atomic bomb in 1949, the Chinese Communist Revolution in 1950 that began the formation of a relationship between China and the Soviet Union, and finally the Korean War of 1950 - which prompted then President Truman to send in American troops to help push back communist ideology, so began the great communist fear known as the Red Scare in the United States. The Red Scare was an American fright response to the ideology that Communists had the capability to, and would - invade the country, take over, and permanently change the American way of life. As the Red Scare heightened, government involvement…
The global conflict of World War II left deep internal scars on vast variety of different people. The McCarthy Era began during the Cold War, a time that led to widespread paranoia and suspicion of the communist population (also known as the Red Scare). This resulted in a fear of the spread of communism in the United States. Senator Joseph McCarthy set up “witch hunts” in search of people who practiced communism. The people who were accused were given the option of refusing to testify, which would result in them being blacklisted; subsequently causing their careers to suffer. The other option was admitting to McCarthy and the House of Un-American Activities Committee and providing names of other communists.…
We can see this resemblance directly after WWII leading up to the “Cold Wars”. People were fearful of communists, because they feared that they would be lead them to another war. Russia, a communist country, had obtained information on the nuclear bomb from…
Nuclear power us one of the biggest and best power sources known today. Nuclear fusion and fission makes a lot of excess usable energy. It produces a lot more energy than wind, solar, coal, or fossil fuels do, and they actually are better for the environment than coal or fossil fuels, producing helium rather than carbon monoxide. In short, nuclear power is a good idea because we can take care of the nuclear waste, the reactors have better safety measures and protocols than normal factories, is more cost efficient, and it better for the environment than conventional power.…
The Korean War was “fought mutually for unknown and incommensurable(if not incomprehensible) goals “(Cummings.205) by the 2 most important sides, North Korea and the US together with the UN. Kim Il Sung decided to attack the south for several reasons and even though he risked the possibilities of the intervention of the U.S (which occurred), he downplayed its importance because he thought that his allies both Stalin (USSR) and Mao (Communist China) could and would take care of the U.S intervention. We can agree that the UN was the catalyst which led to the involvement of foreign nations. So its adequate to state that the foreign involvement of the U.S was justified.…
There are 3 different types of energy used by the United States, there is solar, nuclear and wind. These types of energy are different from one another, with their own pros and cons. Nuclear power makes over 20 percent of the United States energy producer. Nuclear energy is when clean energy resource. Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms a process called fission.…
