One reason why nuclear power plants are dangerous is because of the possibility of a melt down. When uranium, the energy source in nuclear power plants, gets too hot in can melt. In addition, large hydrogen bubbles can also form in the core of reactors. If they come in contact with oxygen, it can explode also causing a meltdown. In March of 1979, the Three Mile Island nuclear plant near Middletown, PA, experienced both of these faults. Within days, everyone in Middletown and in the surrounding areas were evacuated. The scientist were able to shrink the hydrogen bubble before it became deadly. If they were not able to, the meltdown would have …show more content…
Nuclear power plants cracks can be caused by natural events such as earthquakes, tsunamis and tornados. Radiation can reduce the number of lymph nodes in your body, and can kill nerve cells. As well as cause disfigured growth to any life on earth. After the Fukushima Daiichi power was cracked by the massive earthquake and tsunamis in March 2011, scientist found that organisms were disfigured. It affected species from rice to birds. In some insects and animals, scientist found that they were smaller, and it took them longer to grow and some were even disfigured. Radiation from these cracks in the reactors is a dangerous and unneeded problem that could cause many harmful
