Nuclear power makes up about 20% of the United States Electricity. Nuclear power wasn’t used until 1953. The idea came from World War II which used nuclear fission. Nuclear power is made by water being heated to create steam and that creates the power to split uranium atoms also using nuclear fission. Nuclear power has its advantages and also has it disadvantages but one in particular is dangerous. In March 2011 tragic struck Japan when a few reactors had become unstable and exploded. This being a big problem is small in comparison to its advantages. This paper will explore how nuclear power effects the environment, how reliable it is, and how efficient it can be. First, Nuclear power does not harm the environment. To begin, nuclear power plants do not harm the environment. For example, Rinkesh author of conserve-energy-future.com states that nuclear energy plants do not harm water, land, or any habitats (Rinkesh). Therefore, by using nuclear energy less harm is done to the environment.
