Energy Resources Energy is everywhere. It is vital to us. It’s used to build the structures that surround and protect us and to power our homes and buildings. Most importantly, energy is crucial for all life on Earth. Essentially, energy resources are split into two categories: renewable and non-renewable energy resources. A renewable energy resource is an energy source that can be renewed over and over again for limitless use, while a non-renewable energy resource cannot be renewed and will eventually run out. Although both energy sources provide sustainable energy for human life and productivity on earth; they also have contrasting aspects when comparing their costs and longevity.
Non-renewable resources dominate the energy market in todays world, they provide approximately 85% of all energy, compared to a measly 15% percent that renewable energy resources provide. Non-renewable resources come out of the ground in different elemental forms such as liquids, gases, and solids. Essentially, there are four forms of non-renewable energy that are used today: crude oil, natural gas, coal, and uranium. Crude oil, gas, and coal are all considered as fossil fuels, fuels that are formed from the buried remains of plants and animals that form over time, while uranium is not a fossil fuel but still considered a non-renewable resource. Oil, natural gas, and coal are used primarily for 3 things: petroleum oil to fuel forms of transportation, heating oil and diesel fuel used for cooking and diesel-based machinery, and jet fuel to fuel airplanes and …show more content…
Eventually, however, our environment will face the consequences of our constant energy use and we will have no choice but to find renewable energy
