Vietnam veterans suffered through months and sometimes years fighting through emotionally, physically, and spiritually difficult circumstances. They returned home after the war with the hopes of a fresh start, be afforded new opportunities, and finally have the opportunity to put the past events behind them. This can often times have a negative effect on veterans that are searching for proper employment. Although employers by law cannot discriminate against disabled veterans, some employers tend to hesitate when hiring from this population for fear of being unable to incorporate them into the workplace environment. This alone has a direct effect on veteran health. The two most prominent health effects are depression and suicide. While active duty veterans feel a sense of purpose, have pride and and have many achievements that come from concentration and responsibility.
