For this discussion, I have chosen a subject that affects everyone regardless of your education, socioeconomic class, and age, our health care system. Within our healthcare system, we have a single payer system for people who are age 65 or older or under the age of 65 that meet certain disabilities and/or other requirements known as Medicare.
The United States is currently experiencing an exploding population known as "baby boomers"; these individuals were born between 1946 and 1964. This segment of the population is the largest and fastest growing segment within the United States currently. As of the last census in 2010 there were 41 million Americans on Medicare by 2026 the will be more than 71 million American on Medicare. That 's a 42%

These are private insurance companies that have a contract with Medicare to manage and administer people 's Medicare benefits. These types of programs are known as managed care models and serve all demographics of our population.
These programs are paid for through the beneficiaries Medicare Part B premium and are deducted from their Social Security checks and/or paid on their behalf by the state; otherwise known as Medicaid.
In the past people who were unable to qualify for Medicaid which is based on the federal poverty limit (FPL) only had one other option a Medicare Supplement. For someone that is on a fixed income and exceeds the FPL limit more than likely would not be able to afford a Medicare Supplement which can be a very costly alternative. All preventative services are included in the plan benefits and are 100% - this includes services like flu shots, immunization shots, annual physical, OBGYN visits, mammograms, and colonoscopies.
These plans were designed to help members manage their healthcare benefits while allowing for better medical outcomes. With a managed care model they understand the best way to get you healthy is to keep you healthy, it contains cost and allows members to experience an overall higher quality healthcare system.
The potential of these types of plans is almost limitless when you consider the staggering number of individuals who are aging into Medicare each and every day. Furthermore, we must also consider the growing number of individuals whose entire retirement landscape has changed due to the financial crisis of 2008. These individuals are prime candidates for these types of cost savings plans.
Now that we have identified the market, understand its growth potential and more importantly its social and economic impact on a vulnerable segment of our population let’s explore its monetary advantages for a business.
