Synopsis In the article “The Pros and Cons of Marijuana” published in The National Forum Journal of Counseling and Addiction by Amir Abassi the author proposes that both proponents and opponents of the legalization of marijuana find a middle ground on the legalization and enforcement of consuming marijuana. The article “The Pros and Cons of Marijuana” discusses the legalization of marijuana. The main focus of the article is presenting the opponents and proponents arguments for the legalization of marijuana. The areas addressed in the article relating to the legalization of marijuana consists of the economic impact, health risks, and social impact of legalization. An expert in the article states the risks and benefits of consuming marijuana as well as the long term effects for recreational use. The medical marijuana perspective states that marijuana alleviates pain, nausea and migraines. This statement is contradicted further in the article. The article states the risks an individual might face when consuming marijuana. The expert in the article states that marijuana can have adverse side effects such as anxiety and induce psychological conditions. However, it states that a large scale study has not been conducted. This is an issue. A decent study has the capability of being replicated numerous times with the same result. Other aspects of the legalization of marijuana have been addressed.
The economic and social impact of the decriminalization of marijuana were addressed in the article. The article states that the federal government has spent as much as $4 arresting individuals on marijuana related charges. This impacts society due to the legal and housing costs of offenders. The methods used to come to a conclusion need to be reproduced.
