Studies show about 10% of the people who use cannabis, may develop a dependency. The same studies have also shown that opium-based pain killers have a much higher dependency rate. The use of this herb can also have effects on your short and long-term health. Some of the short-term effects are; the inability to concentrate, a sense of time alteration, short-term memory loss and lessened senses. These long-term effects are more hazardous to health; respiratory issues, liking to those of tobacco use (for those who smoke this herb), sperm count reduction, lower free testosterone in men, alteration of premenstrual and ovulation cycles of women, increased fatigue, decrease of libido, reduction of cognitive abilities, fertility impairment, increase of body fat and a decrease of muscle mass. Using cannabis at a young age can increase the risk of schizophrenia, and can possibly lead to increased panic attacks. In a recent study (Haun, 2015) “Other symptoms of Colorado’s pot culture include increased use among teens, resulting in educational problems in middle schools and high schools, a spike in “edibles”-related emergency room visits, consumption by children and pets resulting in illness and death and regulatory confusion surrounding public consumption and enforcement.” The positive effects outweigh the negative effects and proved to reduce symptoms of certain medical
