Great discussion posts this week! The notion that Magnet destination is a marketing ploy for institutions is certainly thought provoking. In Research Methodology 5023, Tammy and I were going to work on a systematic review comparing Magnet vs non-Magnet hospitals and improved patient outcomes, but unfortunately we did not find significant up to date statistical data that met the course's requirements, so we ended up switching gears and worked on an entirely different topic. At any rate, currently there are 441 Magnet hospitals in the United States ( ANCC, 2016), and in 2012 there were 391 Magnet recognized hospitals ( Levy, 2012), so it appears these numbers continue to grow slowly.
