“At first it was a little challenging because these gang members were already setting their ground rules. When I had to sit them down to interrogate them, they already sensed I was the new guy because of how tough I acted. But as I started to gain more experience I learned by just talking to them made me gain into control instead of using weapons or any harm.”. Personally, I never thought an officer could keep a gang member in place by using words. I always thought any officer could just beat it out of them or use some type of threat that will eventually backfire onto the officer. My friend’s aunt, who is now a homicide detective for Los Angeles, has been a probation officer as well. For her experience, to get information or some sort she basically had to use physical force to hear what she wanted. Of course that didn 't end to well, but to hear using word’s meaning just talking to them is quite impressive.
The number one particular hatred gang members have against other rivals or civilians, is disrespect. Disrespecting one another can lead up to multiple vulnerable consequences. One of those consequences, involves a group of gang members coming after the person who disrespect them. Gang members will either beat you and damage your limbs, also murder you or your loved ones. It is very important to never disrespect a member. To avoid one of these consequences, try not to make eye contact.
