The main option, being the two-state solution, which would involve one nation that is Israel, and one nation that is Palestine, however, this possibility seems unlikely, however is supported by 62% of Israelis (Maltz). Another option, being the one-state solution, is far less likely, along with being much less supported. This plan would involve having one nation in the region, which would be entirely controlled by Israel. The main issue with this plan, is that it would either result in an Israel that is not Jewish, or not Democratic (Beauchamp). This would be due to the fact that Palestinians outnumber Israelis in the region, and if the nation stayed a Jewish state, then it could lead to the oppression of Palestinians (Beauchamp). While it may not seem that an issue thousands of miles away from the United States is not a pressing issue, the fact remains that Israel is one of the greatest American allies in the Middle East. Therefore, fighting in Israel directly affects the people in the United States in regards to terrorism prevention and intelligence. Due to the recent events that have occurred with the moving of the US Embassy in Israel, it is important that people understand this issue and its implications when it comes time to vote. Truly understanding what the issue is, and how it may affect people in the United States will allow for more active discussion on the issue, and possibly help to create some sort of peace in the region. One major issue with understanding this issue, is the religious implications intertwined with the solution. According to Professor Jan Feldman, “Americans are not nearly as religious as the people in this region, which makes solving this problem much more difficult than we can understand,” (Feldman). While Americans may never be able to truly understand the reasons behind the conflict, it is important that Americans are aware of the issue, and work towards benefitting the situation rather than sitting idly
