Interest groups “protect the rights of people who do not belong to the majority. There are some interest groups like Public Interest Groups that are advocating on behalf of the whole society rather than advocating for a small group of people or their members. The latter is not bad, but when they start working for their members and the rest of society suffers due to it, it is harmful. Stricter rules or laws must be put in place to prevent interest groups from swaying a legislator towards them and away from the best interests of their constituents. Simple rules like a reasonable limit on contributions, money they can spend on entertaining the legislators, and above all accountability by providing the people with the names of the lawmakers they are lobbying are required for the interest groups to truly work for the betterment of society as a whole and not just the group they are
