It seeks to illuminate how, why, and in what contexts an individual’s behaviour is self-motivated and self-determined. SDT is relevant to explaining why independent learning skills are important for student well-being and success because it gives us the language and the mechanisms to explain how independent learning and psychological well-being are linked”.
