The positive side of strict rules of impaired driving is that they save lives and create a lot of awareness among people throughout societies. If laws are not forced, people will continue to disobey them and take advantage of the fact that the consequences of breaking the law are not serious. Impaired driving laws create a “fear” in people not to break laws, because thelaws are made to protect people and maintain peace within the societies. The negative side of having strict laws is that people make mistakes and deserve second chances without getting a criminal record when diving impaired. When they are going to be applying to jobs in the future which could be within 2 years of the time they were convicted of impaired driving, it will show up on their record and company supervisors and managers might not hire them due to their irresponsibility and foolishness. The purpose of strict impaired driving laws is to prevent accidents, injuries and deaths from occurring. In Canada, everyday fewer than four Canadians are killed and over 190 people are hurt and injured due to impaired driving on roads ( 2012, DUI Statistics ). The Criminal justice system is a branch, a foundation of not only Ontario but whole Canada that keeps societies safe and peaceful. It protects the public and enforces laws that benefit everyone. Without impaired driving laws there would be more innocent lives lost than now . Impaired driving laws are protecting people not harming them and stripping their driving rights away.
There are many other things the Criminal Code can improve on but currently do not need much improvements at all because of the decrease in impaired driving in Ontario. I see many
