“The act of the border crossing enables them to make lifestyle changes that adversely affect the environment; by becoming Americans they adopt the consumption and pollution patterns of the world’s most environmentally destructive lifestyle” (DinAlt). In other words, immigrants come to the United States and adopt the waste producing lifestyle of Americans. As a result, the environmental footprint of an immigrant is larger than it would have been if immigration to America was not allowed. “For every mile they drive, they pollute and deplete resources that could have been relatively unaffected had they continued their prior lifestyle” (DinAlt). Because, most immigrants live an improved lifestyle after moving to America, more pollution is created.
