Human and sex trafficking is the second largest crime in the world behind the selling of illegal drugs; with anywhere from 14,500 to 17,500 people being trafficked in the United States, and 600,000 to 800,000 all over the world (11 facts). Many of the victims being kids ranging in ages from 12 to 14. One of the ways that people are tricked into becoming a trafficking victim are through “friends” that they meet online and want to meet up. Seeing how popular social media sites are in today 's society shutting them down is not an option. A solution to help better protect people while online is to teach society what the do’s and dont’s while on any social media as well as what could be a threat.

The reason human trafficking is so hard to stop is due to how it is organized. Each trafficking ring as multiple layers before reaching the boss of the operation, members in the lower “levels” are easily replaced and busting them is not as effective and costs a lot of money, resources and manpower. Authorities try to track the chain of commands back to the head of the ring so they can shut down the ring all together. The 41 person bust in Nashville, Tennessee which put civilians ranging from school teachers, football players and average people behind bars or charged with a misdemeanor for aiding and abetting. But because of the lower risk of getting caught trafficking is also rising because unlike selling drugs or illegal firearms (the first and third largest crimes in the world) there “product” does not run out. On average the cost of a “slave” is $90 dollars while drugs such as marijuana cost anywhere from $30 to $70 dollars for 1/8th of an ounce (11 Facts). That is the problem, in society a lot of people are looking more at how many followers they can obtain rather than who is actually following them, there are even apps that help people receive more followers on sites like Instagram and Twitter. This is not safe, traffickers use social media sites such as these to look for their next victim. They will use tactics to lure their next victim in and trick them into trusting them and believing that they are their friend who is there to help and support them. Common ways are that they will make the victims feel special, make them think that they like the same things that they do and even promise things ranging from an escape from their current situation to material things. Once they have them, they will threaten to hurt them and/or their family if they say anything to anyone. Some of the things that traffickers look for on social media are people who post pictures of themselves in revealing clothing, talk about troubles at home, school or work, and people who post personal information about them self. Traffickers use information like this to connect with their prey before they strike. Traffickers use different tricks depending on the person, some are enticed with job offers, relationships, promises of escape and with material objects. When the victim has fallen for it,
