They’re often told, “well, why don’t you just get a job and stop being homeless?” Society fails to realize that the solution isn’t so simple. Pendleton makes some excellent points that prove that homeless is, in fact, is not a choice. Blanton, however, believes that homeless is an attitude, not a lifestyle, which I strongly disagree with. Pendleton states that, “No one grows up saying, “My goal in life to become homeless,””. This shows that many homeless people don’t choose to end up on the streets; they’re often born into poverty and homelessness. (as well as drug use,

In the article, “Homeless, Mike Dick Was 51, Looked 66,” author Kevin Fagan stated that “The nation needs to commit, emotionally and economically, to saving these older folks” (321.) The older folks referred to in the article are homeless people that live across the United States. However, what Fagan failed to mention in the article is what the homeless are not doing for themselves. Long time homelessness is a predicament that can only be blamed on the homeless because people that wind up homeless for whatever reasons are capable of changing their situation.…

Word has been going around that homeless individuals are being moved because of the upcoming super bowl. A quote by Jennifer Friedenbach saying, ¨When a lot of cameras are going to be pointed on the city they don´t want to see homeless people. I believe that the officials are moving homeless people out around the superbowl so they won't look bad when the cameras are rolling and the superbowl goes live. At the same time I also believe that they are moving the homeless to shelters because of the cold weather too. It looks more like they are trying to move the homeless away from the stadium…

Mark Twain once said “the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why” (Twain, ND). I found out why when I was 19, pregnant and homeless living on the streets of New York City. I knew I had a purposed and that there had to be something more to life than the cards I was given. I believe change starts with one and that is why I decided that it will be my life’s mission to help end homelessness and be a service to other people.…

For others, the American dream is to never have an empty stomach, it’s a place other than the cold and dirty concrete, it’s where people can shower more than once a week. The American dream isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be for some. There are people that go day after day barely surviving.…

We have learned largely by life experiences that hard work payoff, but when we are broken by hard times, some hard working individuals seem to forget their knowledge and self-worth. Consequently, this lack self-esteem leads most of the hard working individuals to make poor choices. Ultimately, this leads those individuals to chaos and disastrous events that destroy their family security, dreams and achievements. We must remember homelessness can happen to anyone at any time, but it is an individual choice whether to work his//her way out of homelessness or stay to request donation in the street for that rest of his/her life.…

The AZ Central article “Mesa mayor tells conference there are no homeless vets in city”, posted in January 19th, 2017, shows that the main concern for the homeless in Mesa are veterans. I understand that veterans sacrificed a lot to give each and every one of us our freedom, but why should this group be the top priority in the battle against homelessness. According to “Endhomelessness.com” only 8.6% of the total homeless population across the country are veterans (http://www.endhomelessness.org/library/entry/fact-sheet-veteran-homelessness). Why should this small percentage of the homeless be the main focus when there is children and single mothers who are in the same situation: looking for food to eat and a place to sleep? I’m sure that the…

There’s one part of the video 2 that really caught my attention. Society’s ignorance and judgement are creating the wrong perceptions towards the homeless people when the truth behind their situations are far more complex. Vast majority of homeless people are suffering from a mental illness that keeps them from getting a permanent job. Some have very little knowledge about mental health that they don’t seek for help. The reasons of being homeless are not as simple as we think it is.…

A recent drive around Phoenix for me, made me realize the number of homeless people panhandling for money on street corners. At some point during a calendar year in the Untired States, 1.5 million are homeless looking for a place to sleep and food to eat (Katel). Of this 1.5 million, 80 percent or around 1.2 million are considered transitionally homeless, meaning that they have had a run of bad luck and are homeless for a short amount of time, usually around a couple months. Imagine if instead of 1.5 million homeless individuals across our nation, there was only 300,000 thousand. This group of transitionally homeless, which is usually devoid of major addiction or mental health problems, are relatively easier to help that those who are chronically…

The author’s point is convincing, I do agree because something has to be done about the homeless. The reasons I agree with the author are we need homes, more money, and a lot more help. I believe we need more affordable housing because the numbers of the homeless are rising. Plus, people don’t find housing shortages as a issue. We also need more finances so we can have a source of funding just like the L.A. mayor proposed.…

Our society preaches the idea of equality, freedom and happiness but is not willing to make the sacrifices needed for this to happen.
