Health Insurance companies penalize people who smoke cigarettes or chewing tobacco. They charge higher premiums or refuse to provide them with coverage. People that have also quit using tobacco within the last several years are penalize. It can take someone several years to recover from a lifetime of smoking tobacco and it takes time for his or her risk of disease to decrease. Many plans provide coverage for smoking-cessation products but their premiums will be high. Their impact their health will cause others to have high premiums.
