People are angry, and not just at the system, people are angry at each other. Many people here grow up feeling as though they have no way out, so they turn to the streets. Firearm related deaths in other states do not compare to the rate that people are gunned down here in Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans. Emily Lane, of NOLA.com says “The 2011 data, published earlier this week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, indicates guns killed 865 of Louisiana's nearly 4.6 million residents that year. Over 20 shots pummeled their vehicle, killing the pregnant women and the son she would have delivered the following week instantly. Although this is a sad case, we cannot call it rare. In the past five years, children have been murdered in drive by shootings at birthday parties, elderly people have been shot during armed robberies, and people are being hit with stray bullets during the middle of the day. Bullets are non discriminatory. New Orleans is a violent city. It has been that way historically. Now that guns are so easily accessible, people do not have to control themselves or confront someone face to face as they did in the old days.
