Have you ever heard of a time when an officer of the law has had their own gun drawn on them right in the middle of a physical altercation with a suspect? Let me present you this scenario of a police officer by the name of Ken Jackson. It has been a normal day similar to any other for Officer Jackson. He was making his usual traffic stops making sure all the civilians commuting to work that day had a valid driver’s license and registration. The day was going very smoothly for Jackson until he stopped this one car that appeared extremely suspicious. Thomas Henderson, a factory worker for the IGun Corporation says “A smart gun is personalized firearm that is equipped with personal recognition safety measures that only allow a specific user to fire it.” Henderson also stated that “Smart guns basically work like they have their mind, they usually have touch sensitive handles, triggers, and wristbands that alert the gun that it’s able to be used whenever one of the three is present.” The reason these safety measures are built-in to prevent a number of incidents from occurring. Those incidents are accidental shootings, gun theft, self-harm, and finally misuse against the owner. Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts has proposed to congress that all handguns that are being manufactured, sold, and imported into the United States be combined with fingerprint and palm recognition for the safety of the citizens. Mr. Markey believes that this form technological advancements can bring more beneficial to the country than just in terms of law enforcement. His suggestion is to have them legalized throughout the whole country, because he believes that it’ll increase their since of security in their everyday
