Some gun control laws make it more difficult to obtain a gun or carry it in certain public places, like parks or schools. While some may argue that making it illegal to carry a gun without a concealed carry license will only stop those that abide the law from carrying one, others would state that you must go through an extensive background check and, in some cases, a considerable amount of training to be able to buy and carry a firearm (Taylor, 1). If the correct laws are in place, only those who pass these background screenings and training courses are able to acquire the permit needed to carry a concealed weapon. If someone with this concealed carry permit is around when a shooting is about to take place, the incident may be stopped by this legal carrier before the situation gets too out of hand or becomes too serious or dangerous. “Background checks will help keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have them.”(Ridder, 1) With mandatory background checks in place, many people (mentally unstable, people with criminal histories, etc.) that would commit gun related crimes, such as murder or armed robbery, will be denied access to firearms. Some of these people may be able to somehow access these weapons, but many will not. This policy has been put into effect in many states and has greatly helped to limit the number of people with access to guns that should not have them and the number of crimes committed by …show more content…
There are countless cases of gun related homicides and suicides in the United States. “States with the most laws had a mortality rate 42% lower than those states with the fewest laws, they found. The strong law states' firearm-related homicide rate was also 40% lower and their firearm-related suicide rate was 37% lower.”(Alcindor, 1). People who usually commit gun related crimes, homicides, and suicides are mentally ill or have previous criminal backgrounds. When guns are harder or even impossible to acquire, the number of gun related injuries and deaths declines drastically. People find other ways to solve their problems than gun related violence. Some simply do not want to go through the long, complicated process of buying a firearm. Others are not given access to firearms because they fail the background checks or are not able to correctly complete the required firearm handling training. Whatever the case may be, studies show that these areas with gun controlling legislation show a drastic decrease in shootings and deaths caused by guns. It is obvious that gun control laws are
