With firearms, citizens are better able to protect themselves or others in times of this harm or violence. Though, when gun control laws are enacted, restraints on personal protection and use will come into play. “According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), guns are used for self-defense 2.5 million times a year. The police cannot protect everyone all of the time. 61% of men and 56% of women surveyed by Pew Research said that stricter gun laws would make it more difficult for people to protect their homes and families.” (“Should More Gun…”) As mentioned in the article’s statement above, harsher gun control laws will only restrain individuals from needed protection. In addition, the same article mentioned that “Gun ownership is an American tradition older than the country itself and is protected by the Second Amendment; more gun control laws would infringe upon the right to bear arms.” (Should More Gun…) In the year of 1791, the Second Amendment was founded stating that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” If gun control laws are enacted this amendment will be infringed upon. Further, the United States Constitution will also be infringed
