The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control

February 14, 2018, one of the deadliest school shootings in the United States. Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people and wounded 17 others. Following this day, gun control has been hot on the radar for almost everybody in America. Survivors like David Hogg and Emma González have been protesting for gun control, such as banning certain firearms, wanting more background checks, and raising the age to buy guns. There are more people speaking up about their individual opinions on gun control and there are more people becoming involved in the growing issue. In theory, this should be great, standing up for your rights, but so far, it is the opposite of that. Most of these people voicing their opinions know nothing about guns as seen in this video exchange: “Do you know what an assault weapon is?”, “Yeah, it’s um… assault weapon… it’s like an um… I kinda do… but kinda don't” (Protesters Say Ban Assault 1:04). I am for stricter gun control, but I also believe more people should be educated on guns and how it's not really the guns …show more content…
This student, who had a history of mental health issues got this firearm (a 9mm Glock) legally. Once upon a time, this gun was illegal to own. A man killed 10 people in Washington, D.C., in 2002. He was using a Bushmaster XM-15, which is very similar to a Colt AR-15, which was one of the weapons under the ban. The students involved in the Columbine go one of their guns (a TEC DC-9), which was also banned, was bought from a gun show. These are all loopholes to getting these guns. The manufacturers of the guns can also change the names of the guns, so they don't fall under the ban anymore. These guns were all banned at one point, but that didn't stop the shooters from getting them. Looking at these examples, there are high chances that these techniques to getting guns will be used
