The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” Every single human being therefore has the right, the liberty and the power to own any sort of weapon of self defence however, people with mental issues, drug addictions and criminals should not be the ones in possession of a gun. The problem at hand is not guns per say, as guns do not kill people, rather people with guns, kill people. Firstly, depriving citizens of their right to possess a gun will in no way prevent them from doing just that. So as this may deflate the crime problem in a country, it will in no way rectify it. Secondly, guns are needed by the people of a country for self defence so that they are not deemed defenceless without the aid of law enforcement. Criminals do not bother with the niceties of obeying laws since a criminal is, by definition, someone who disobeys laws. Placing laws banning citizens from owning guns removes guns from the possession of “good” people and leaves them in the hands of criminals, which would be detrimental to society. Public shootings occur quite often where unarmed civilians are killed or injured. Although banning gun ownership would definitely curb the level of crime, it certainly won’t eliminate it as other forms of violence do exist.
