Elon Musk, the founder of tesla, paypal, and even more reputable companies, even said “We 're running `most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere... can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe”(brainyquote). If you are the typical resident in San Francisco, then you may have heard that the State of California has declared a drought of emergency on January 14, 2014. One of the main reasons that California declared a drought emergency is because of the climate change due to global warming. I know that this may sound weird, but believe it. Researchers from Bielefeld University conducted an experiment where they have 2 different colored boxes, one black and the other white, placing them in a sunny spot and a shady spot for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, they record the temperature for each box. The results are what you would assume them to be. The black box in the sun had the highest temperature because “The black box absorbs the most light, and this energy is transferred inside of the box over time and warms up the thermometer”(Valverde 1). While the white box in shade showed results that were the lowest. As you can see, by changing the color of your house, the colors of your house correspond to the temperature in your house. If you want it to be warmer, change the color to black. If you want it to be colder, change it to white. Similar to the outfit you would wear on a hot or cold day. Although San Francisco isn’t known for its extreme weather, you have the option to change the temperature to your desire. Some days are hot and some days are cold. The color of your house plays an important role when it comes to reducing the amount of fossil fuel burned to create electricity. All in all, it may seem that our actions to reduce global warming may seem miniscule. Slowly but surely, our planet will see better days. There are many other solutions for this major problem of ours.
