There are many alternatives for protection that are just as effective as using the deadly force of a gun. A way to improve safety for all students would be provide them with a form of protection like a Taser, pepper spray, or fight training that would be easier for them to act on rather than digging through their bag, taking off the safety, and aiming their gun to possibly kill someone who is armed or perhaps unarmed. Major precaution should be taken to keep weapons as far away from the learning environment as possible. All buildings on campus should have weapon detectors that signal upon a firearm entering a building. Texas State Police should continue to monitor cameras around campus for unusual activity. Along with heightened security there should be services, like personal councilors, that check-up on students and faculty to make sure there at a normal mental state. Nevertheless, providing all students with these kinds of precautions just puts them in a positive educational experience where violence does not seem like a possibility, but allowing the campus carry law to effect all these aspects does the complete opposite. Just because people on campus will have access to a firearm does not mean they will be prepared to defend themselves.
