The task was to test two designs, a cylindrical box and a rectangular box, under the criteria of wasting minimal space and also the least cost the company. This testing would occur by using the knowledge of surface area and volume using formulas to find out the mathematical answer. The overall most efficient design will be recommended to the manager of the company for production.…
Every now and again, a government agency gets it right. Stockton Creek Preserve (SCP) on the edge of Mariposa is the result of smart long-range planning, cooperation and talented people focused on doing what’s best for a community. SCP addresses several important issues, not the least of which is an open space protected in perpetuity from development and motorized vehicles. In 2011 an alliance project between Sierra Foothill Conservancy (SFC) and Mariposa Public Utility District (MPUD) created the 410-acre Preserve. It was designed to protect Mariposa’s domestic water supply, ensure viewshed conservation, develop trails, reduce fire hazards and provide recreation opportunities for locals and visitors.…

In contrast to the rest of the store, the golf section of Dicks Sporting Goods includes a large about of crown modeling and mahogany wood stained display cases which immediately catch any consumers eye. These grand scale pillars give a sense of extravagance and attract wealthier clientele to the high end items found in the golf section. While these moldings and pillars are on a large scale to fit the warehouse style housing of Dick’s, they offer a much homier feeling. The deep earth tones of the wood give the area a luxurious style that makes one feel a sense of importance, and in translation the conception that the products sold leads to an affluent lifestyle. The mahogany wood is not only visually appealing but makes one feel at home.…
The day started like any other, but the same could not be said for how it ended. I arrived at the town golf course, Longshore, about 30 minutes before my tee time. There was slight cloud coverage, minimal wind, and a comfortable temperature. Glints of sun through the clouds periodically illuminated blades of grass, almost signaling for the ball to be hit there. The bentgrass took a deep, rich shade of green from the recent douses of rain.…
Success is often defined as the accomplishment of one’s goals or objectives. Most people measure life by their successes. Life is a game in which I am constantly measured by myself and others. When I was younger, I based my goals on the expectations of others. I felt enslaved by the goals that were set for me by my superiors – my parents, successful peers, and enthusiastic teachers and mentors.…
By gauging the general health of the environment, we can make nature-conscious decisions when growing crops, planning construction projects, and otherwise using unprotected land to fulfill our needs. The connection between the wilderness and the rest of nature may seem difficult to quantify, but its existence is proven by a simple fact. There is no physical barrier between the wilderness and unprotected land. The “hard green line,” established by the Wilderness Act to segregate wild lands, is little more than a metaphor. Unfortunately, the intangibility of the barrier ultimately proved fatal to the…
Cronon challenges popular ideas related to the perspective of nature in today’s society. In summary, the author implies, among other things, that nature is not disconnected from humanity. Participating in a community garden will certainly influence an individual’s perception of nature, but this is also influenced by their definition of nature. Cronon (1996) makes a relevant point, “Nature will always be contested terrain. We will never stop arguing about its meanings, because it is the very ground on which our debates must occur” (p. 52).…
One of the regional differences I note in the data is the lack of golf courses on the West Coast of the United States. In the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, golf is best served. Another region that is very well served is Florida. Generally speaking , the Deep South and West Coast regions of the U.S. lack the most golf courses. Some of the factors I believe account for this difference are environmental determinism and cultural traits.…
Tourist attractions such as golf courses create an excessive demand for water, putting strain on local supplies and increase the amount of shortages (Henderson, 2007). Fauna can be impacted due to wild-life tourists pursuing an experience to view wildlife at close distance in their natural environments (Wall and Mathieson, 2006). Viewing wildlife in their usual surroundings can be very disruptive to their natural life, for example jeep safari cars cause lot of noise and disturb animals trying to hunt and breed. The creation of large tourist facilities can involve the clearance of land such as forests, destroying natural habitats for both flora and fauna, putting strains of ecosystems and decreasing wildlife…
