The Pros And Cons Of Global Myth

Global Myth "Global Warming refers to a long-term increase in the Earth's surface temperature that results in large scale changes in global climate" (Freedman and Duncan 1). Global Warming is a highly debated topic. Many people believe it is a real danger due to the studies from NASA, which do not go along with other scientist's studies. Other studies show global temperatures have been declining every year since 1998. "During the 20th century, the earth warmed 0.6 degrees Celsius, but that has been wiped out in a single year with a drop of 0.63 degrees Celsius in 2007. (Contoski 1). The Earth's temperature is increased by greenhouse gases. Some say they are put off by people and that our own species is causing the Earth to warm

Global Temperature has declined since 1998." Sunspots help to heat the earth. There are periods "when sunspots "crash" or almost disappear, which can lead to dramatic cooling of the earth for several decades" (Contoski 3). The dramatic cooling of the earth could lead to a little ice age such as it did 400 years ago. A little ice age may be quite possible in the next couple of decades, according to the article "Global warming, Global Myth,"if sunspots don't show up soon," a slow decline in temperatures will begin as early as 2012-15. This will lead to a deep freeze in 2050-60 which will last about 50 years. We are currently at a solar minimum, awaiting the start of the next solar cycle. If sunspot activity does not pick up soon, we could be in some serious cold climate" (Contoski …show more content…
There is also historic evidence that weather was much worse in times of colder climates than it was in times of a warmer climate" (Contoski 5). The cooling of the earth that most studies show has brought upon us a "tornado drought," setting a new record for the last 60 years." (Newman 2) rather than warming, the earth may be cooling. "Sea-ice cover in Antarctica was growing to record levels, tornadoes and hurricanes were at record lows; the Artic sea ice was rebounding fast; and much more" (Newman 1).
Humans are not the only mammal affected by "global warming." We have all seen the pictures of polar bears swimming in the ocean with no ice caps surrounding them and have heard the statistics that polar bears are becoming extinct. However, "Today there are 22-25 thousand polar bears, compared to 8-10 thousand 40 years ago and only 5000 in 1940 before the big rise of carbon dioxide" (Contoski 4). More consequences will come from the earth cooling, rather than warming

20,000 years ago, at the height of the last ice age, global temperatures were five degrees colder than now (Shaftel). Or for something a little closer to home, sixteen of the last seventeen years have been the hottest years ever recorded, with each new year setting the new record after the last (Shaftel). In 2014, 1300 independent leading ecological scientists convened for the Fifth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change at the United Nations. They concluded there was a 95% chance that this increase has been the direct result of human activities such as burning fossil fuels (Intergovernmental Panel). The temperature increase has far deeper consequences than just hotter days, though.…

Since the late 1800s, the average global temperature has risen by more than 1.5°F, and there are places that have seen increases of twice this amount. This warming is responsible for numerous changes beyond the thermometer. First, not only is the air temperature rising, but ocean temperatures are as well, and this is exacerbating the melting of glaciers and sea ice. This is shifting sea levels, something also affected by changes in precipitation patterns. The strength and timing of extreme weather events are also being altered.…

Everybody always talks about global warming as the scary thing that melts ice and hurts the polar bears. Well guess what? Global warming hurts us too. A video by PBS said, “We are part of the cycle, we don’t control it, and what we do to harm it harms us” (2005). Not only is global warming hurting the polar bears, it is hurting humans as well.…

From 1950-2004 the world was what scientists called the Mini Ice Age. this was after the medieval summer which was long warming period about 80 years prior. The Ice Age was expected to get worse leading into a long eternal winter but in the mid-90s scientists saw the earth getting warmer in alarming numbers and declared the Ice age over. A modern day ice age would probably mean death for life as we know it. Cars would become things of the past and safe food and water would be a dwindling life source.…

Ice caps are slowly diminishing around the world because of numerous problems. First of all, when the ice caps thaw seasonally then rebuild, they are no longer rebuilding back, because there is less snowfall and more heat, as shown in Figure C. When ice caps melt, sea levels rise which can disturb the migration pattern of animals, alter ecosystems, and make people move out of their homes because of flooding. it can also threaten many islands and coastal cities. An estimate by NASA is that polar ice caps shrink 9% every ten years, based on photos that they have taken. Another prediction is that oceans can rise between 2.5 and 6.5 feet every year.…

In studies published in an article called “Polar Bears in a Warming Climate” by the Oxford University, it refers that one of the first things to consider is that the world is changing at a fast pace. However, researchers have shown that this change and its consequences such as climate change is harmful for the environment. In fact, one of the main afflicted are polar bears and their surrounding which is the Arctic. Now, studies predict that if it keeps melting, polar bears’ percentage of disappearing increases each minute.…

Have you ever seen a polar bear? Not many people have. The population now is around 20 to 25 thousand. In the 70’s the population hit the all-time low, the ice they live on is melting due to global warming. The population will continue to drop so long as we don’t do anything about it, and soon, no one will get to see the snow white bear.…

As the ice is breaking up progressively earlier each spring, there is less time to hunt for seals. This results in longer fasting periods, as well as lower fat stores, decreased access to denning areas, and fewer cubs with lower survival rates. From modelling habitat needs of polar bears, and projected sea ice conditions, it is forecast that approximately two thirds of the world’s polar bears could be extirpated by mid-century [13]. Reduced Arctic sea ice may impact marine ecosystems. It favours a phytoplankton–zooplankton’ dominated ecosystem rather than a typical ‘sea-ice algae–benthos’ ecosystem.…

The Earth is continuing to warm at extreme rates much faster than scientists have projected. Rising global temperatures have been are producing changes in weather and climate. Many places have seen fluctuations in rainwater, resulting in more floods and droughts, as well as more frequent and severe heat waves. Ice caps continue to melt at unprecedented rates, sea levels are continuing to rise and the ocean is becoming more acidic. Human activities are largely responsible for the sudden and recent change in Earths climate.…

The global average temperature has increased and is continuing to increase rapidly, which is affecting wildlife. Even though species have adapted to climate change in the past, a big concern now is the rapid rate at which the climate is getting warmer. The changing climate has affected wildlife, their populations, and their habitats. Many species are moving closer to the north in response to climate change. Migratory birds are arriving at their nesting grounds earlier and there is a decline in the availability of food they need for reproducing.…

Global warming has been a widely talked about subject for many years. Although it has become such a controversial topic, it is indisputable that there has been a change in the climate in recent history and continues to do so. Over the past one hundred and thirty- five years that data has been collected, copious amounts of climatologists have piloted research and investigations that proves global warming is an ongoing threat to Earth as a result of humans negligence. Furthermore, there is a mounting body of evidence to prove that the cause behind global warming is man-made. Despite the growing evidence, a number of scientists still believe the current changes in the climate a part of a natural global cycle.…

In the past decade, the global temperature has increased by 1 degree Celsius, due to human activities such as using fossil fuel which emits carbon dioxide in to the earth’s atmosphere. There are many ways to prevent or stop the global warming. One of the easiest…
