Fracking Should Be Outlawed in The United States. Fracking? What on Earth is that? Well, hydraulic fracturing, or the so-called fracking, is the process of drilling down into the Earth, then using high pressure water to break open the rocks, to release the natural gas inside, but there’s a problem. Water, sand, and chemicals are also injected along with high pressured water into the rocks. The gas comes right out of the head of the fracking well, but where do the chemicals and contaminated water go? It goes into underground water, lakes, rivers, etc.. What happens next? Farm animals near a body of contaminated water, are either going to die or give birth to dead babies. Fracking can also increase pollution, which will hurt agriculture. One way to solve this problem is by outlawing fracking in the United States. Fracking uses about 7.8 million gallons of water, and for every well we frack, we contaminate around 5 million gallons of fresh water. That’s only one of the million wells out there in U.S. If you do the math, we are using about 5 trillion gallons of water everyday, and about 4 trillion gallons of fresh water is contaminated. Emissions of carbon dioxide and methane will contribute to global warming. Methane warms up the climate 80 times more than the amount of a 20 year period of carbon dioxide emission. In addition to pollution, health is a problem too. The workers who work for fracking companies, will likely have respiratory problems, cardiovascular problems, effects on fetal / child development and effects on the reproductive system after/before they retire. They are also likely to be a danger to their family, because of the contaminated shirts, pants, hats and boots that they bring home everyday after
