They may have to examine bloody clothing, study blood splatter, and possibly view the victim’s body, which requires strong composure and mental stability to witness the aftermath of brutality and be able to remain focused on their work. Forensic scientists who sometimes have long hours that keep them away from home can suffer from physical and emotional fatigue.
Forensic scientists can sometimes face unrealistic expectations along with intense scrutiny. Due to the media, people see the discipline as objective and infallible. ¨Police, prosecutors, and juries often expect definitive forensic evidence (Williams 2).” Recently forensic science has become questionable due to several investigations revealing inaccuracies or misconduct at forensic labs. Multiple reports have also revealed that in several cases little forensic evidence is found and when it is it has a minimal impact.
There are many disadvantages to being a forensic scientist which is why currently there are more forensic pathologists retiring or leaving the field than there are entering the field. Forensic science can be physically as well as psychologically straining so it is not for the faint of heart.
