Benefits of becoming a psychologist include, having a decently flexible work schedule, if the person prefers to take work home it is allowed , salaries are high for those with experience and educational degrees, and lastly there are many options within this field (Sternberg, 1997).Depending if the psychologist works within a company or is self-employed determines the schedule that the psychologist follows, usually both are lenient. An advantage for most is that there is a variety of options to look for as a career in forensic psychology. The psychologist has a choice to become an adolescents counselor, expert witness, probation officer, rehabilitation officer, jury consultant, and much more (Steele, 2015). Despite the advantages that go along with becoming a forensic psychologist, there are also some disadvantages to consider. These can include emotional strain, patient isolation, the possibility of violence,and the extensive education and the training (Lewis, 2015). Emotional stain happens because psychologists are constantly listening to a patients emotional problems, this causes the psychologists to be vulnerable to distress (Lewis, 2015). The possibility of patient violence is a main concern in forensic psychology. Forensic psychologists are regularly consulting with criminals, these patients tend to have a likelihood of being more violent than any other patients. Anyone who is considering forensic psychology as a career has many advantages but also may run into some that the worker may not be too fond of.
