Although the SNAP program has many positive aspects in helping those in hunger and the economy there are still according to the USDA nearly 18 million American households who remain food insecure. This makes us ask the question about whether SNAP is really successful. SNAP costs a lot in administration and there is much fraud in the system. Many believe that the system increases dependency on the government. Although nearly all food stamp households have working age adults in them, few are employed. The food stamp program in many views is in need of reform whereby all able bodied, non elderly adults should have to work to gain aid. If they are unable to do so then they need to be involved in community work to help them become self sufficient.
