During an individual’s lifespan there will be many times that they undergo tough times and begin to feel distraught. Over the past couple of decades there has been an astronomical rise in the number of individuals that have succumb to drug use, while some individuals claiming that this is due to their social status and environments, while others argue that it’s because of their addictive personalities. Regardless of one’s point of view, it is very clear that drug usage in today’s society is occurring and shows no signs of slowing down. In today’s time and age there are many different types of drugs, one of these types of drugs happens to be depressants. Depressants can be defined as a drug that brings down an individual or reduces bodily functions. A common drug that falls under this category and people have become well acquainted with happens to be alcohol.

Although not all individuals who partake in drinking undergo these types of things it is important to be well aware of the possibilities. Other effects that drinking alcohol tends to have on individuals are psychological effects. For instance, according to our text book, Drug Use and Abuse, alcohol is a psychoactive (mind-altering) chemical that, like heroin, depresses the CNS (Abadinsky, 2013). The overconsumption of alcohol can leave the individual slurring and stumbling thus leading to physical harm to the consumer. Although Alcohol is in fact one of the most used substance in our society it is not the only drug worth taking a look
