In July of 2007, a man’s livelihood and freedom hung in the balance. Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Michael Vick was on trial for charges of illegal dogfighting, accused of abhorrent abuse and slaughter of dogs in the brutal blood sport. To public satisfaction, the promising first round overall draft pick was sentenced to 21 months in a federal prison with two months of house arrest. With justice served, it brings the question, how influential and lucrative is the underground dog fighting scene so that a 37 million dollar annual salary celebrity would risk incarceration?

The truth is, that owning a man’s-best-friend as a companion instead of a weapon has many health benefits and joys. Your blood pressure and cholesterol levels may drop, your overall happiness may rise, and there is even evidence that life is extended in those owning dogs.
If you find dog fighting to be as atrocious and brutal as it is, then there are steps you can take. You can make a difference. If you see evidence of a fight, such as many pit bulls gathering in an area, pit bulls on heavy chains, rectangular areas between 14 and 20 square feet commonly made of plywood, or even a fight in progress, please report to the police immediately.
Before the trial of Michael Vick, dogfighting was thought to be a dead practice and was not highly publicised at all. Dogfighting not a dead practice at all. In fact, it is an underground crime that is as alive as ever. Now that it has been almost eight years since the trial of the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, it now seems that it is once more forgotten. Remember the crimes of Michael Vick, and use them to keep your eyes open, and your treatment of animals

The answer leads to media. The media is the cause of the fear about Pit Bulls. They created the impression that these dogs are harmful and makes the public believe that they’re the only dogs that attack. It states in Source #4, “Despite the fact that other breeds of dogs can and do attack people, these incidents go unmentioned, even at the local level. The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving Pit Bulls, while keeping silent on attacks committed by dogs with better reputation, such as labradors.”…

Should Pit Bulls Be Banned? Pit bulls may be the most widely misunderstood breed of dog. Their reputation is one of brutality and ferocity, and assumptions are made for the entire breed based on the poor, misrepresented actions of a few canines. Allowing for a minority of pit bulls to speak for the entire breed is a concept in which Americans are well versed, often tolkenizing one on the behalf of many. Because of this tendency to allow for one to speak for an entire group or population, it is even more important that humans stop to address any bias that exists within them without a broader knowledge of an issue.…
