I use email for things like shopping or ordering things online, tracking packages, bill paying, things that would send me an email message confirming my payment or action. I rarely communicate with friends or family via email anymore since the world of texting became available. I also think that instant messaging has become more popular than traditional email. Working in a male dominant industry, I found that men will respond much faster to a text than an email. I think the reason for that is because it takes less time to check it and respond as opposed to having to open up email, select the message and then type a message back. When in the middle of a project, the fastest method will always prevail. Texting also cuts back on response time, allowing me to receive my information faster. In addition, I feel that texting often eliminates some of the formalities that come with email, which my co-workers can appreciate. It does encourage more abbreviations and slang, but in my personal situation, I do not mind that as long as I am getting the information I need. Again, this will depend on the situation and relationship of the people
