Country music has been around in the United States since the 1920s. It takes its roots from the southeastern genre of United States, such as folk music and blues music. Country songs are often underrated for several reasons. The main misconceptions about country music comes from a very narrow style of the genre that people hear. For example, people will hear one line in a country song about growing up on a farm and they simply generalize this genre as a representation of a single lifestyle. Additionally, country songs are not often played on the mainstream radio stations.
