Cloning Pros And Cons Research Paper

The very thought of cloning has been a very controversial ideal. Since the cloning of the sheep named Dolly on July 5, 1996, the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell (Freudenrich, 2001). People have had great concerns about the use of cloning of larger mammals such as humans. What makes cloning of humans, so controversial that we would put a ban on cloning humans?
Let’s say that you are on the waiting list for a new kidney, but you have a rare genetic makeup. The doctors tell you that it is nearly impossible to get you a replacement kidney, but due to new scientific genetically modified kidney from a pig could give you the long and healthy life that you wished for. What would you say?
In order to understand why there is the ban on cloning, you need to first understand how cloning works. Cloning is also known as Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. What this means is that the DNA from an adult mammal (animal or human) known as the “DONOR”, is extracted from the cell and inserted into the egg cell from another mammal. The egg cell has had its nucleus removed so that it can be read and duplicated like

Let’s go over the pros and cons of the benefits to humans. The first pro is that we would be able to get rid of the genes that cause genetic diseases by replacing them with a healthy gene to replace the defective one. This means that we could take the gene that causes someone to have Huntington’s disease with a healthy gene, while they are alive or even before they are born. The next pro is that couples who are unable to have children would be able to have an egg that has been genetically modified with their genes implanted. This then gives the couples their own child with their gene makeup. Another pro is that we could take healthy Embryonic Stem Cells and grow them to produce organs and tissues to replace or repair damaged ones to improve the lives of humans, this also could mean faster healing time if

The development of cloning technology led to new ways to produce medicine and improving the understanding of genetics. Cloned animals can be used to carry human traits that could lead to new developments in medicine. Also this could lead to human cloning, but this has not been legalized so far due to people's ethics. Although this process lead to a success in Dollie’s case, there…

In the article “Ethical Issues of Cloning” by Rita Putatunda explains about the problems of cloning. Copying the genes and making new reproductions of the human is equivalent to “playing God”. The successful cloning of Dolly (Sheep) in 1997 brings many tension upon society and furthers the possibility of human cloning. However, there is a high failure rate of cloning and it may alter the genes of the cloned animal/human. Putatunda questions that the cloning outcome might act as a unique individual or have to live like a genetic prisoner.…

Another pro is Organ Replacement, there is less chance of rejection and also there is no waiting list for a transplant that may not even work. One of the pros and con is Reproductive Cloning. The pro to Reproductive Cloning is that couples who aren’t able to have kids are able to have them; including sterile parents or same sex parents. However, there is also negatives to Reproductive Cloning, including that 95% of animal cloning has ended in failure because of genetic defects. But, lack of diversity is a problem because clones look the same.…

The advantages are obvious. First of all, there are a multitude of hereditary diseases, passed down from generation to generation, killing individuals at early ages. For example, Huntington’s disease begins to show symptoms around forty years old, and within a few years, the victim dies a slow and uncomfortable death. However, with the advent of genetic engineering, couples prone to passing down Huntington's can test different embryos in order to see which one carries the gene for Huntington's, and which one does not, and therefore, produce a healthy baby, capable of living long and fruitful life. But here is where moral questions arise because some embryos are discarded.…

The downside to that though is the cost. I could see the government only accepting cloning so that they could control it and get more money. That is one reason I would like to keep it banned. The most important reason I would like to keep it banned is because we do not know whether or not it is safe enough to do for humans. We have had plenty of practice on animals, but no one to confirm whether or not this will work for the best.…

Why Cloning is Bad You are a scientist and you find out that the animal you cloned had defects in its body. Advances in science like cloning are bad because if one animal’s DNA has an error, it could give the other animal a defect as well. One reason I think cloning is bad is because clones could develop cancer.…

Summary/Response: “Human Reproductive Cloning: A Conflict of Liberties.” In this article “Human Reproductive Cloning: A Conflict of Liberties,” Joyce C. Havstad’s conflict is if cloning becomes safe and reliable, people should be able to have reproductive freedom. The author explained that promoters of human cloning know that it may lead to harmful characteristics. Instead of positively promoting human cloning they explain the causes and effects that could take place.…

The idea of taking stem cells and using them to create more stem cells is hardly new. With the experiments dating back to the 1950s, new breakthroughs are making it a viable option for these stem cells to be used to find cures for cancer, and help heal heart, brain, and spinal injuries that otherwise would have been debilitating or fatal. The controversial question that has arose from this research is whether or not it is ethical to kill an embryo to harvest these stem cells. The answer is no.…

It would be beneficial for more than one-hundred million people suffering from mental and physical disorders that are caused by faulty genes. Reproductive cloning is to dangerous for most people to rise. It poses to many threats to both the mother and the cloned child. The great thing about possibly being able to use therapeutic cloning is that no one would be forced into doing it, it would be their own choice. Once you look at the facts above it becomes clear that the future of possibly curing millions of people suffering from genetic diseases lies in therapeutic cloning.…

“Human cloning is coming,” as Mike Pence once said. Cloning is a technological advancement that is making its way toward our era. It has already been established in 1997 through Dolly the sheep, the first cloned living organism by taking a cell and infusing it with electricity to create an exact replica. After this significant scientific breakthrough, the big question asked now is how much farther can we take cloning to another matter like even human cloning? Human cloning is one majorily entire thing versus organ cloning, which has benefitted many people worldwide.…

Human cloning Human cloning is the process of creating a genetically identical individual, based on a model. Cloning can occur naturally or as an artificial process. The human created, do not emerge from sexual reproduction. First of all one needs to get to know what forms of cloning exist, in order to discuss the question if cloning humans in our real world society is rather something to be in favour of, or to refuse.…

Currently, only 1 to 10% of attempted cloning of offspring is successful. Also, when somatic cells are extracted, they are randomized. This makes it so scientists cannot tell exactly which cells contain traits that contain diseases or genetic disorders. Lastly, even though the cloned organs use the recipients’ cells, there is a chance of cell mutation which causes the organ to be…

Furthermore, banning cloning is a legal issue because it directly violates the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects ideas, not because of their substantive merit but simply because ideas stimulate thought, which in turn breeds the courage and boldness necessary for effective self-governance. And while cloning research is clearly disturbing to many, the Supreme Court has stated that “the First Amendment ordinarily prohibits courts from inquiring into the content of expression, expect in cases of obscenity or libel, and protects speech … regardless of [its] motivation, orthodoxy, truthfulness, timeliness, or taste….…
