Climate Change, defined by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is “A Change of Climate which is attributed directly as indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere, and which is in addition to natural climate …show more content…
Climate Change is mainly caused by excess greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, relative to the holocene period. The holocene period is the only period we know to support human life. The most common greenhouse gases are Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Water Vapour (H2O) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O). These gases cause increasing atmospheric and earthly temperatures, because they wrap around the earth like a blanket and trap the Suns solar energy, (Solar Radiation) or heat, effectively acting how a glasshouse does. This is known as the greenhouse effect. The natural greenhouse affect is the warming of earth surface and lower atmosphere because of Carbon Dioxide and Water vapour. These substances allow the solar radiation to pass through to the earth surface but inhibit the energy’s ability to depart into space. Most of the Solar Radiation travels down to the surface of the earth with little resistance, though some is reflected off of clouds, into space again. The radiation that does reach the earth warms it and the lower atmosphere. The warmed Earth bounces back radiation into the atmosphere, mostly in the form of Heat Radiation, or infrared light.
