Weber (1947) was first to conceptualize charismatic leadership to describe forms of authority based on ‘exceptional powers and qualities…not accessible to ordinary person but are regarded as of divine origin or as exemplary’ (Compendium p.106) Since then, charismatic leadership is used to describe leaders who have ‘charismatic effect’ on their followers to an unusually high degree (Compendium p.121).
