This allows us to speak freely without fear of prosecution. We need to be able to speak against unjust policies and help our country with an open mind instead of a closed fist. People will always get offended by something whether it’s in regards to gay marriage, or racism, or sexism, people will always find a way to be upset about it. People’s opinions over certain matters should not be able to justify whether we go against the constitution or not. As humans, we all live in a box. If something happens that doesn’t appeal to us, we disregard it completely. We speak of equality and freedom for all but whenever someone has an opinion that differs from ours, we won’t let up about it. What does that say about us? How are we any different than what we speak out against. Freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
