Many people think of censorship as a tool utilized by governments to control their citizens, but it occurs much more frequently than that. What people never realize is that the everyday scrutiny and judgement that we place on each other and our ideas is just as if not more harmful than government censorship. We do not suppress these behaviors out of malice, but out of true concern for the wellbeing of our society. A complicated word isn't it, ‘censorship’. It comes from the Latin word ‘censere’ which means to give as one's opinion, something nonexistent in an Anthem society. Like many things, a world without censorship can be scary, but a world with too much of it, is a world with no meaning. Look at Anthem, the people who live in that society have no meaning, no life, no importance. Censorship can also be an act of changing a message, including the change of deletion (complete removal of the message of the news or what was said), between the sender and the receiver. Censorship can be used for the good, by being ethically responsible.…

An example of censorship can be seen when Montag reads a poem to his wife and her friends but later hears her friends reaction when she cries while insisting“I’ve always said poetry and tears, poetry and suicide and crying are all awful feelings poetry and sickness.” which only shows that even though she understood it she feels offended by its very nature. Books do tend to offend a certain group of people but they are also beloved for their knowledge. Which is why people who care for them don’t want to see them rejected for books are the lifeblood for all things that feed the brain.
